About the Company/Team
Galiot Press is a new and innovative publisher of fiction and non-fiction. We have re-envisioned the entire publishing process to make it more transparent, more accessible, more equitable, and more sustainable. Our books emerge from the confluence of currents and cultures, often taking artistic risk or defying categorization. Our first books come out in Fall 2025.
About the Role
We are looking for a Business Development and Partnership Associate (BDPA) to work closely with the two co-founders to launch and grow our unique book sales partnership program. This is an opportunity to be a part of real change in the publishing industry, and to bring bold stories to readers in new and exciting ways and places. Galiot Press is looking for businesses with whom we can partner through a “virtual bookstore” system. In particular, we are looking for cafés, hotels, salons, and community centers. Businesses win because their customers get an exclusive chance to engage with great new books and authors, and be the first to discover books that everyone will be talking about. Galiot wins because we reach customers who fit our target audience profile: educated women 35+ with a deep interest in culture, art, and community. Our BDPA will contact managers of specific independent businesses, franchises, or small chains to pitch this "virtual bookstore" proposition to them (Galiot Press has identified the categories of businesses, and in some cases specific businesses or small chains, with whom we’re looking to create partnerships. We will also provide a value proposition-driven pitch story that we encourage you to make your own.)
Tasks involved in this processes will include: Contacting selected businesses Identifying additional contacts Describing our mission to potential partners Describing our virtual bookstore Visiting businesses in-person whenever possible to demonstrate the virtual bookstore via prototype Explaining the value proposition of having a Galiot Press bookstore in their stores Negotiating the terms between them and Galiot Press Devising, scheduling and confirming events in their store(s) during a limited-time “drop” period The BDPA should have the following skills and experience: Sales experience in hospitality, food services, retail, travel, or publishing (at least 3 years) Excellent written and oral communication Engaging personality Courteous persistence Enthusiasm for books and stories Creativity, ingenuity, and inventiveness Ability to work independently Excellent time management Facility with Excel, CRM software, and data analysis B.A. or B.Sc. minimum Knowledge of book publishing a plus but not required Women and BIPOC candidates strongly encouraged.
